THEM
Character Name: Koushirou Izumi
Character Age: 16
Canon: Digimon Adventure Tri
Canon Point: Near the end of the third movie of Tri, Kokuhaku; he and the other Chosen have just gone through a portal to travel to the Digital World.

History/World: Koushirou's wiki entry. As a note, the wiki uses dub names (and so might be dub-specific,) but the events of the dub vs sub are extremely similar with only very minor edits so the overall history is the same. Also, because this wiki doesn’t include anything on Tri, I’ll go into that briefly in bullet points.
• It’s three years after 02 (now 2005) and the Chosen are living normal lives, which for most of them includes high school.
• Digimon suddenly start appearing, including the Chosen’s partners, and as a group they begin to work on figuring out how Digimon are getting to their world and why. Additionally, they meet a new Chosen named Meiko, and her Digimon Meicoomon.
• They discover that Digimon are being infected with something, which corrupts them and turns them generically evil.
• As Koushirou works on identifying and reversing the infection, it spreads to the Chosen’s partners who choose not to tell the kids. The “god” of the Digital World, called Homeostasis, speaks with the Digimon and tells them about the option to reboot the Digital World, curing the infection and erasing the memories of the Digimon
• Tentomon tells Koushirou the truth about the reboot, and Koushirou creates a way to back up the data of the partner Digimon and therefore save their memories despite the reboot.
• Unfortunately, the infection completely overtakes all the Digimon other than Tentomon, who—upon evolving to HerculesKabuterimon—manages to get them all back into a rift leading to the Digital World. He can’t, however, get them into the backup field Koushirou created in time, and the reboot completes.
• A few weeks later, the Chosen decide to travel to the Digital World to find their partners, even though they won’t remember them. As a group they open a gate to the Digital World, and cross through it.

Personality: Discussing Koushirou's personality is difficult without going briefly into something that shaped a lot of his traits, and that is that when he was young (it's not clear when, but probably around 6 years old) he overheard his parents talking one night. What he heard was that his parents weren't his biological parents; he was adopted, and his parents had been holding off telling him until he was old enough to accept it. Unfortunately, because he'd found out on his own, it seriously affected him growing up until his parents finally told him the truth during the events of Digimon Adventure when he was about 9.

Koushirou is naturally introverted, preferring to spend most of his time thinking or working on something, and he generally doesn't need a whole lot of social contact to feel content; his parents and the rest of the Chosen are more than enough not to feel lonely. He focuses intently on whatever he's working on, sometimes to the point of unintentional rudeness as he stops paying attention to those around him. While most of the time it's just because he's concentrating, he used to block out those around him purposefully; in particular he used his computer and love of technology as a way to escape contact with other people, especially his parents. After his parents told him the truth and Koushirou gained a lot of confidence from his time in the Digital World, he stopped actively blocking people out but still does so unintentionally at times.

On the subject of confidence, he came into the events of canon with very little. He was not just out of place and unsure of himself from being stuck in an unknown world with a bunch of mostly-strangers, but had essentially no self-esteem at all--again stemming from the secret of his adoption. He considered most of his opinions and skills to be worthless, even while the rest of the team was already looking to him for plans and insight very early on in their adventure. When their team leader Taichi (who would become Koushirou's best friend) entrusted Koushirou with a life or death decision--which Koushirou made the correct call on by solving a puzzle--his confidence started to turn around, and by the end of Adventure 02, and now in Tri, this was possibly the largest change in his personality. Now officially the team tactician in all but name, Koushirou doesn't hesitate to speak up when making plans, directing people, calling out stupid decisions, etc. Still, his confidence never tips over the line into arrogance, and a wrong call or feeling like he's let down the team in any way can send it (temporarily) right back down to zero in a hurry.

Much of the reason that Koushirou is the team tactician is because he's extremely bright and perceptive. He excels at seeing all the sides and pieces of a situation, figuring out logical connections, improvising and coming up with plans and options, and adjusting strategies to deal with changes or new information. He has a very strong drive to learn and pursue knowledge, and is extremely curious about anything and everything; he is also able to think clearly and stay calm under pressure and in dangerous situations. This combination of intelligence, curiosity, and desire for the truth earned Koushirou the Crest of Knowledge, a semi-magical embodiment of his strongest trait that allowed his Digimon to progress to the Perfect level. Outside of Digimon terms, it essentially means it's his strongest and most defining trait, which he had to understand and master over the course of the series.

Being a combination of reserved, easily absorbed in his own thoughts, and a little socially awkward, Koushirou can sometimes come across as insensitive or uncaring. In reality he's genuinely very kind and exceptionally loyal, but he shows these traits much more through actions than any words; he always puts the people he loves first in the grand scheme of things, even if it may not seem that way at first. With his parents and closest friends (such as Taichi) he can actually be quite perceptive of moods, feelings, and thoughts, and does his best to consider them. Like many introverted people he shows more personality around the people he's most comfortable with, letting down his guard a bit and being more honest in his reactions and emotions. He still rarely shares his own personal thoughts or problems, however.

Koushirou has a tendency to hyper-focus on what he’s doing, to the point of ignoring his surroundings—including other people—completely. This can range from pretty harmless, in that he completely misses his friends arguing five feet from him, to potentially dangerous, in that he isn’t staying on guard even in a risky situation. Although a problem in general in 01 and 02, it’s gotten worse by the time of Tri; although Koushirou’s dedication to his work has scored him a very lucrative job despite his age, he also overdoes it to the point of being detrimental to his health due to forgetting to eat and refusing to sleep. While working on figuring out the infection in Tri, he has to be bullied by Jyou into taking a break after Jyou finds him passed out on his keyboard and Koushirou reveals he’s been awake several days straight.

As a last note that didn't fit anywhere else, Koushirou's speech patterns are extremely polite. This started as a way to distance himself from others by putting up a wall of formality that kept him from having to show personal feelings, but somewhere along the line it sort of took over. Even when he consciously tries to speak more casually he can't do it, and this is commented on a few times throughout Adventure, Adventure 02, the drama CDs, and his personal image songs.

Items: Koushirou is carrying his Digivice, his wallet (which contains nothing particularly useful outside of his world), and his laptop computer (which is distinctly more useful if he’s able to get any sort of power.) He also has a backpack, but canon doesn’t tell us what he’s carrying in it; considering he’s bringing it for the purpose of surviving in the Digital world for awhile, I’m going to say it contains a few minorly useful objects: a lighter, a small flashlight, his laptop’s charging cable, and a few bottles of oolong tea.

Powers/skills: Koushirou is ridiculously intelligent, and is particularly skilled in dealing with computers in both the hardware and software aspects. His skills are a little questionably possible, although since DIgimon canon has established some pretty odd things existing it may be less ridiculous that he can program pocket dimensions and imbue goggles with the ability to see distortions in time and space. More mundanely he’s exceptional at normal uses for programming, and works for a friend’s business; he’s apparently important enough to have his own office and be able to get out of attending school at times, which is pretty unusual in Japan. He speaks Japanese, French, and at least decent English. Also, despite being a huge nerd, he’s pretty active and can run, climb, and swim all moderately well.

Technically, he has no special powers… Except for Digimon canon being a mess and unclear about things. So of note are his Digivice, which acts like a radar for other Digivices, and also occasionally glows or makes annoying beeping noises. The latter two are useful pretty much only in the context of Digimon canon, although the radar might feasibly work if anyone else with a Digivice shows up. Additionally, he has his crest’s ability; this one is even more vague, which is annoying because it’s a lot more powerful. One of the Chosen, Mimi, is awakened from what’s basically a sleep spell that was cast on her, due to her crest activating passively; it seems that the crests therefore protect the Chosen, to some extent, from the effects of magic and spells. This fits with another weird canon event in which all eight of them use their crests to create a protective shield in the Digital World. Additionally, there have been multiple instances of using their crests in conjunction with their Digivices to open portals or generally travel between worlds; obviously this won’t be a thing in game.

Tl;dr for that previous paragraph: His Digivice can detect and track any other Digivices in the same world (in case anyone from canon shows up) and his crest will automatically and passively undo the effects of some spells or supernatural abilities used on him.

A network post from playing him once previously at Drift Fleet. As a note, at DF he was from the end of 02, and so was two years younger than the canon point I'm apping him from now.
